Last month, Takara Tomy unveiled their brand new UX line of beys. Ever since they were announced there has been a lot of confusion on what exactly makes them different from existing beys and whether or not they are an evolution of existing beys. Without a further ado, let’s find out
What are UX Line of beys and how they are different from the rest of Beyblade X?
To put it simply. UX, also known as Unique Line is a new system of Beyblade X beys that for now seems to co-exist with the existing BX line of beys. Kind of like the Cho Z Awakening beys of Burst or 4D system of Metal Fight.
Things that make them different are as follows:
- The BeyHolder hook, which is a part that connects the launcher to the Beyblade is now made out of plastic and is separate from the contact point which continues to be made of metal. Allowing it to be made in a more complex shape and improve stamina and attack power thanks to more outward weight distribution
- All of the beys are built around a passive gimmick or ability. For example, Dran Dagger focused on being a one-hit-KO bey and Wizard Rod is all about the most outward weight distribution and stamina
Are UX series beys an evolution of the existing BX Series beyblades?
Oddly enough, no. All members of the team persona, the protagonist team of Beyblade X continues to use their old beys along with the new versions. Which means it is a sort of side-grade meant for a specific purpose. For example: Ekusu use his old Dran Sword against stamina/defence types because of its high attack power but against beys that have ability to evade his Xtreme Dash or can counter it with their own. He use his Dran Dagger, which is also an attack type with that trades attack power and speed for much higher stamina, defence, and the ability to perform many X Dash in row. Which gave him an edge when facing other attack type beys.
Now that out of the way, let’s go over each bey and understand their gimmicks and speciality
All Beyblade X UX lines beys explained
Let’s go over each of the UX beys and see what makes them unique
Dran Buster 1-60Axel
- According to Takara Tomy
- Blade – Dran Buster – The majority of its weight is focused on a single point. In theory, concentrating all of its attack power in a single hit.
- Ratchet – 1-60 – It only has a protrusion on a single side which aligns with Blade. Further helping with the effect mentioned above
- Bit – Axcel – Has the same tip as Flat bit. But now with a larger 16 teeth gear instead of the usual 10. For a faster, but more stamina-consuming Xtreme Dash
- All of this results in a one-hit-kill attack-type beyblade that compromises stamina and balance for maximum attack
- What we noticed
- The blade seems quite good for bursting its opponent due to several aggressive contact points on top of the blade. For the same reason, it would also be best used on a low-height bit and ratchet
- At approximately 36g. Dran Buster is the third heaviest blade in the series.
- Our recommended combo for it would be Dran Buster 5-60Rush or Taper
- The stamina issues of the bey mainly stem from the large gear of Axcel Bit as it performs X Dash. This could be significantly improved by pairing it with a heavy well-balanced ratchet and recommended bits should significantly help with its stamina issue while still allowing it to make use of its heavy weight and aggressive shape to full effect
Hells Hammer 3-70Hex
- According to TT
- Blade – Hells Hammer – Has 3 contact point with large surface area, meant to hit opponent like a hammer and slam them down into the stadium
- Ratchet – 3-70 – Same as existing 3 sided ratchets. But on a new height of 7mm
- Hex is the first of its kind, hexagon-cone-shaped comes with the same 16-teeth gear as Axel.
- Upon tilting, Hex is supposed to “hop” a bit due to its shape and supposedly help with the destabilising opponent
- All of this results in a bey that is meant to start off by remaining stationary destabilising its opponent to eventually get knocked back and perform a powerful Xtreme Dash to finish them off
- What we noticed
- Although we have yet to test it. Hells Hammer looks like a more aggressive version of Screw Fusion Wheel from Metal Saga. This means in theory it should be great for attack-type combos
- With that being said, the weight of the blade is about average especially compared to other UX beys at 33g.
- The blade also seems to have an aggressive shape on its top side. It may also be good on low-height bits
- 80 series of ratchets have been noted to be harder to burst than 60 series. This is also the case with the 70 series of Ratchet. They can be paired with low-height bits like Low Flat to achieve a combo that is the same height as 60 series ratchet and a regular bit with the added benefit of being more resistant to bursting
- Despite Hex’s resemblance to Edge, which was known to be one of the worst-performing drivers of the Burst series. Hex has already been found to be competitive for defense-type combos
- The edges of Hex(agon) scrape against the stadium upon collision with an opponent. Helping it resist knock-out
- It does not hop
- Recommended combo
- Hells Hammer 5-60Flat/Taper and 3-70Low Flat – Pure Attack Type meant to bring out the full potential of HH’s aggressive shape
- Wizard Rod 5-60Hex (shout out to Nizuma Blader)
- Phoenix Wing/Cobalt Drake 9-60Hex – A more knockout and burst-resistant variant of a very similar combo that uses Ball or Orb instead. The conical shape of H should also make it easier to tilt and make contact with the ratchet of its opponent.
Wizard Rod 5-70Disk Ball
- According to TT
- Blade – Wizard Rod – Focus of the blade is maximum outward weight distribution for higher stamina and balance
- Ratchet – 5-70 is the same as existing 5-sided ratchets with a new height
- Bit – Based on existing Ball Bit. It has a disk on top. In theory, helping with the effect mentioned above
- What we noticed
- Wizard Rod is 4th heaviest blade at over 35g. With its focus on OWD and smoother shape compared to other heavy blades. It is by default top tier for stamina
- Disk Ball is the heaviest bit as of the writing of this article
- DB is also taller than a regular ball bit.
- DB also seems a bit more prone to bursting than a regular ball
- DB has significantly highest Life After Death compared to any other bit. Giving it a significant edge at a low spin speed
- The stock combo is pretty much top tier out of box
- Recommended combos
- Wizard Rod 9-80DB – An attempt to utilize a higher burst resistance of 9-80 to fix the stock combo’s only issue
- Wizard Rod 5-60Hex – A defense-type combo as mentioned earlier
Shinobi Shadow 1-80Metal Needle
